I’ve heard a number of complaints about the dinning at foothill, but how’s the food at crossroads, dc3, and clark kerr?

Also, are students allowed to keep mini refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers in their dorm rooms? If so, what are the size restrictions for them?

i ate at crossroads and i really liked it. i felt like there was a lot of variety, but people told me that it still gets old. good thing i'm not a picky eater.

i saw rooms in unit 1 and they all had mini refrigerators. i only went in a few though.

How hard is it to keep the RA from finding out that I have a coffee maker in my dorm room? I need to enjoy a healthy dose of caffeine on a regular basis to survive!

actually, the first thing you do, is go down and check out the RA's room, to see what they have, whatever they have, you can have, well not have to hide. you can always use the argument, okay, we can't have microwaves, how come you have one? and they can't say anything to that =P

i thought microwaves are allowed in the units... guess not.

i lived in clark kerr and the RA's were really chill about everything. ckc is a state historical monument or something, so microwaves definitely weren't allowed, but we had a bright blue one anyway. our RA knew to shield his eyes away from it when he need to come into our room. if he doesn't see it, he can't do anything about it, right?

RAs can be pretty lenient as long as you don't do stupid stuff like cook really smelly food. What they don't see, hear or smell usually doesn't bother them. Back in the day though, I got busted (and rightfully so) for roaming the hallway drunk and acting a fool with a fifth of Southern Comfort in my hand.

There is nothing worse than an drunk, immature acting freshman, and I was the poster child for acting a fool...back in day!

And how's the food at the various dinning halls, in terms of taste, variety, portions, healthiness, etc.? I've heard of people claiming crossroads to offer the best food, while dmcwhiz123 believes that clark kerr has the best food. I understand that food preferences is a rather subjective matter, so would anyone be kind enough to compare and contrast the dinning halls in detail?

i'll tell you this, clark kerr dc, is a place where conferences take place, there are constantly events going on, catering going on. if you visit the dc, you would understand why it is so. thus, the quality of the food is generally better, since there will always be leftover goodies from the catering. also, the western regional cookoff competetion was held in berkeley, clark kerr, this year, and there were food critics, representatives from food companies. anyway, you figure it out. crossroads has to serve at least 2k students a day, ckc serves only about 500 tops..........make less food, spend more per item of food =)

like when we get ribs, its not that pork ribs, or those baby ribs we get, its the real deal, each rib is as long as the plate. when we get steak, mind you, we DO get steal, its not dry, or overcooked, in fact, its usually choicy meat we get. or if you want to just compare the salad dressings. i dont know how crossroads make their dressing, but when ranch tastes like blue cheese, you know something is definitly up.

if you really want to know, AIM me and i'll tell you

You can only have microwave depending on where you are. At CKC we aren't allowed. Foothill is ok I think. I think Units are illegal? I'm not sure. You can always hide it under your bed. It's not like my RA cares (I'm at CKC btw). Fridges are definitely fine. I have the Costco one.

CKC has the best food, but Crossroads isn't bad. CKC has bad nights where I eat barely anything. So does Crossroads. Foothill has more bad nights where I'm like ***. On good nights, CKC OWNS. We just had baby back ribs today with ham, good potatoes and cheesecake =). Yesterday, (Cal Day) for dinner I had the crappiest flavorless chicken at Crossroads. I ate their pasta (which is always there) and I dumped the rest. I walked to Telegraph for Tako Sushi which OWNS OWNS OWNS!!!! =) I like Crossroads in general though. I like their lasagna and stuff. Crossroads has more selection than the other DCs and is twice as large. That's why it offers so much. Yea...

Well.
Let's just say that nobody comes to Berkeley for the dorm food. ;) It isn't TERRIBLE, but.... oh geez who am I kidding? It IS terrible. But don't worry, because the food off-campus is great! Places like the Asian Ghetto, Crepes-a-Go-Go, Top Dog, Cancun, etc. have some of the best food on earth (in my opinion anyway), so you won't be totally deprived of good food. Also, sometimes the DCs have special "theme nights" like Valentine's Day, Winter Fest, Mardi Gras, that kinda thing, and the food is surprisingly good then. Look out for the chocolate fountain too, cos it's always worth going to the DC when they bring that out. :)

In any case, don't worry too much about the food situation here. You might die of a heart attack in the future due to the high level of cholesterol you accumulated in your freshman year, but you won't starve.
Haha. JUST KIDDING.

Not about the high cholesterol thing though. That's true. Several of my friends got bloodtests done over spring break and they all have high cholesterol. Something they didn't have before entering college. Which probably means the rest of us have it too, since we've all been eating the same food. Oh well.

eiffelguy: CKC's lounges typically have microwaves. I'm in building 4. I can go upstairs (3rd floor) for it or walk across to Building 3's lounge for it. Not TOO bad. However 2 of my floormates do have hidden microwaves =P.

Today's food was what the hell. Carribean Chicken? Grrrr. Red Snapper? Hey I like fish but they ran out and gave us like fried cod. That's just cheap crap fish with white rice on the side. I ate that and went out to asian ghetto at like 10 pm. Now I gotta finish my philosophy paper.. what the hell am I doing here =P
