How's the gym?

<p>I'll be visiting Rice for Owl Weekend, but I'd just like to know beforehand...how's the gym? If I'll be spending 4 years there, I'd like to know what facilities I'll have to work with. Oh, also is it hard to join the club/intramural sports (especially volleyball)?</p>

<p>well, i cant say much, seeing as how im a junior in highschool, but i went to rice on a visit. I do know that it is very easy to join a club/intremural sport, and many many are offered. As for the gym, i know there is one on campus, but i wasn't personally in there, so i do not know the quality of it</p>

<p>From what I can tell, intramural sports gets really competitive at Rice. Lots of students compete, so it's really easy to find a team, and in general the teams are divided up along Residential College lines so you get rival colleges going up against each other and stuff like that. It's a big deal for sure.</p>

<p>The gym is very mediocre, but has the essentials. Many kids walk/run outside around the outer loop (3 miles-great surface). There are other local gyms and yoga studios in the area. My D uses the Rice gym a lot and isn't very impressed, but no huge complaints.</p>

<p>Yes, there are two weight rooms, one for non-athletes and one for athletes. My DD is taking a class and uses them, and says that it has everything you need. They are building a NEW recreation center, and it should be built within the next two-three years. :)</p>

<p>Good news, bad news. First, the bad news. The gym is a bit like a HS gym, and is a bitof an embarassment in its current state. They weill be rebuilding it in the next year and it should be great after that!</p>
