how's the Honors Program?

I like to get perspectives from non-recruiters lol

also, what are the admission requirements ?

My freshman D is in the Honors Program, and also has a full-tuition scholarship. One honors seminar is required each semester freshman year (total of two first year) and after that students must complete six Honors experiences over the next six semesters. These range from special honors classes, to study abroad, independent study, research, internships, etc. There is also funding for some of these activities available through the Honors College.

Another freshman requirement is an Honors colloquium fall semester, which, as far as I can tell from my D's description, is a combination of a community service project worked on in small groups, and classroom sessions intended to provide an intensive orientation to UB and its various services, systems, programs, etc available to students. The colloquium had the bonus of adding to her social network from the start of the semester, and she found a lot in common with the students in her group.

There is a section on the UB website that has a lot of info about the Honors College, and so far, my D's experience seems to be happily consistent with the glossy brochures and descriptions :) .

UB Honors College

My D has had close and frequent contact with and access to her Honors advisor, starting with an in depth email correspondence followed by a 45 minute telephone conference in the summer to plan her schedule, a meeting with him at orientation in July, and another meeting the first week of classes. She's had a couple other meetings with him, related to class changes and course selections for spring semester. Honors kids also get priority registration for classes, and there is Honors housing in the Governors complex (my D elected for regular housing, in Ellicott complex, because she wanted a single room). So far she has been very happy with UB overall, and with the Honors College, which really does create a smaller environment within the very large UB community. Best of both worlds.
