Hows the jobplacement of mid-west LACs?

i recommend you call the career services offices at schools you are interested in and they can give you the facts on on-campus recruiting and recent job placement. you need to take all advice from this website with a grain of salt considering that most people who post are high school or college students themselves.

LACs are all about the exclusive small network. Major firms might not keep your school as a "target school"... however, that means little when you have access to an alumni network featuring ranking execs of all the firms you mentioned and who would love to help a fellow [insert name of school]-ite out.

At Bates (my college), IBM's consulting branch has recruited heavily in the past few years (dozens and dozens of students). It also is common for students to get top internships with i-banks and financial consulting firms. Some of these programs even have a number of spots reserved for Batesies... I am sure the same goes at the schools you're looking at. Definitely do check out the career services websites!

Thanks huskem55 and K J

I have no idea where michiganman is getting his information, but I disagree with almost all the opinions he's expressed here. Business is not the primary career choice among Oberlin students, but those interested in business can and do travel in the fast lane. I personally know, among other alums, someone who was recruited by McKinsey, someone who is a vice-president at a major brokerage, someone who is portfolio manager at a major mutual fund, and someone who was for ten years director of marketing at Microsoft. Going to Oberlin (and, I presume, other top-ranked LACs) definitely opens doors to a business career.
