<p>I just got admitted yesterday (yay!) and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Journalism program at UIUC (specifically, News-Editorial). I know it's a strong program with great alumni connections, but I wanted to hear from current students/graduates. </p>
<p>Also, how early can I apply for scholarships within the department? I was admitted, but do I have to wait until May to officially become a student?</p>

<p>Not that familiar with journalism but as to any departmental merit awards you do not have to submit anything extra as they decide based on application materials and if you get anything you will be informed likely in April but possibly earlier. You have until May 1 to accept. Be aware, however, that you cannot apply for housing until you accept and housing is doled out in order of receipt of housing applications. Thus, the longer you wait the less chance you have of getting your first choice dorm and the more chance you have of ending up in temporary housing.</p>
