Hi guys! I’m a high school junior and will be applying for the class of 2020 this November. I’m gonna start off writing my college essay in a week or so. However, I have all the ideas tangled up in my mind and don’t exactly know what to write that will well define me. Would writing about how an incident that tested my valour which I failed in, left me emotionally scarred, recurred again in the future which gave me an opportunity to exonerate myself from my mistakes in the past, and succeeded, make a good college essay if well written?
PS- I know common app essay prompts are likely to change when they reopen it on August this year but i’m sure the essay can correspond to any one of the topics.
Any response would be highly appreciated! thanks
It sounds kind of generic right now, but I’m sure that’s because you didn’t give any details. Any idea you have can work if it’s executed the right way. Just make sure that the experiences you’re writing about are meaningful to who you are now. Also, don’t be one of those people who basically writes, “I was doing blah blah blah, and then I failed! I was devastated and wanted to quit, but I realized that giving up would be the true failure. So I tried again, and I succeeded! Now I know the value of determination and hard work and blah blah blah.” Basically, don’t do that choppy thing where you write want to give up, but then you have some kind of epiphany and your perspective completely changes. Don’t say that something that was so hard for you before is now instantly easy. Make it realistic, and show growth.
The common app essays are now posted for those applying for the 2016 incoming class
