How's this for a first semester courseload?

I'm planning on an Econ or English major, possibly both, and want to be ready for either of those possibilities...

Here's what I'm thinking:
Math 1a
Comparative Lit R1a
Econ 1
English 45B

plus a freshman seminar.
Is this courseload too heavy? It'd be 17 units, and I know calso usually recommends 13-14?

that’s rather heavy for 1st sem. esp b/c econ is probably pretty competitive. the reason why fewer units are recommended is so that we can get settled into college life and have some time to socialize, etc.

that said, I would pull off either comp lit or english and postpone it to 2nd semester or later. no need to have double english/literature classes.

Ok, thanks!
How’s MCB 55? it sounds like an interesting course… has anyone taken it?

Your first sem schedule looks fine.

I took Econ 1 and UGBA 10 my first sem and it was pretty light.
Econ doesn’t have any real work… so it doesn’t actually take a lot of time.

I’ve taken 17 units since my first/second sem.
I think the max for me is 16 from now on… unless the units are in something like decal or a easy class or a seminar. :D
