How's UA & the South?

Bayley…tell us more. Are you a senior or junior? What has led you to Bama?

Hey m2ck, well I’m a senior from Southington, CT and my major is interior design. I chose Bama because of the diversity of the students. Seeing as how there are over 30,000 students, it’s probably easier to find a place where you fit in and friends who really understand you. Plus, a big school means more opportunities. Like, there are over 300 different clubs you can join. And, since I want to travel, there are many more study abroad programs than any other schools I was looking at. Obviously, it’s going to be hard to go to a school that’s a thousand miles away from home, but I like to think of it as an adventure
I’m going to meet new people and see new places. It’s all a part of life. Not to mention, there’s like 9 libraries on campus (I’m a bookworm). I just hope my leap of faith will pay off. So, yeah, it should be an interesting experience.

Nybama,
Yeah, it’s funny because I don’t know anyone who’s going to bama. But, yeah, I’m going on Sunday, so hopefully I’ll meet some new people there!

As a 12 year old client of mine once said, “If you can’t do hard, you can’t do life.”

Your pioneering attitude and perspective are awesome, BayleyS. Roll Tide and welcome to the family. :)

Haha thanks!!

BayleyS,
Reach out to your recruiter to get an updated list. There are about 15 from Westchester County, a ton from Long Island , a few others from Putnam and Rockland counties. You’ll have tons of others to travel back and forth with.

There are a few from Rhode Island too!! Including my son. Lots of Yankees!

A bunch from the Philly area too - I personally know of 7, including 3 from our HS. It’s funny, I know more kids going to Bama than to some of the more popular local schools!

One place to find some of the people is to look at the Dean’s/President’s list - this can be very reassuring, if you are looking for successful people from your local area: [University of Alabama News » Dean?s List](http://uanews.ua.edu/tag/deans-list/)

My son’s experience at UA has been that people judge you by your personal qualities, not by ethnic background. You sound like you are comfortable with yourself, and you will easily fit right in at UA.

My son got the National Merit finalist award, and went to UA as a result (total free ride). Switched major to engineering midway through, so now has an extra year of undergrad to finish in his major.

I pretty much insisted he apply to transfer to our in-state university, Virginia Tech, and he was admitted and right into engineering, too, which given all the transfer applications and the quality of the applicants to engineering, is quite a feat, AND a reflection of the decent regard that Va Tech has for Univ of Alabama’s courses. Not sure you know Va Tech is ranked 14th or so in the undergraduate engineering rankings in the U.S.

U.A. is vastly underrated. My son has decided to just continue at UA and pay OOS tuition for his final year, because he feels so comfortable at UA. He will re-apply to Va Tech later for grad school.

Just thought you should know that UA students who work hard can compete pretty well out there in the real world.

Does university of alabama offer many internships for the students? If so, where? Sorry I am from Chicago and schools around here always help students into the work world and gaining a successful career and I am just worried about if I go to alabama, if I would be able to get a job. Like does the school have good job opportunities and placement help and internships? Thanks guys!

Do you mean are there companies that have internships that Alabama students can get?

What is your intended major/career?

Yes and how available are they. And I want to go into business-marketing.

Hopefully Sea_Tide or someone more familiar with the Bschool can answer. I’m more familiar with internships for eng’g.

Can you provide some links for these Chicago area schools’s websites for internships. I haven’t heard of all these Chicago-area schools that are so active at getting students jobs.

I know university of illinois Urbana champaign has an amazing business program that almost requires students to bed engaged in internships and things. Drake also is in the area (Iowa maybe?) and sets aside an entire day each week for students to work solely at their internships. I also know many many people who have said that university of illinois-Chicago offers many job placement jobs. These are just to name a few schools that I have heard great things of.

Also, besides my internship/job placement question, I was wondering I would probably be a center into the honors college I have a 29ACT and 3.95/4.3 GPA?

Able to enter*

Hi Nikkkkki! Here is some info about the Honors College.

[Admission to Honors | Honors College](http://honors.ua.edu/admission-to-honors/)

Future Students may apply to the Honors College after they have been admitted to The University of Alabama. Admission to the Honors College requires a 28 ACT or 1250 SAT and a minimum 3.3 high school GPA. You will be notified of your acceptance via email. (If your test scores are below the Honors College requirement, you can be admitted later after you have successfully achieved a 3.3 in your college coursework.)

Thanks so much ! Yeah I saw that, but I was wondering if it was competitive to get in, or if almost everyone with at least a 28 will basically get admitted?

OP: Don’t listen any nonsense. UA is a fine school. Grab the presidential scholarship with both hands and hang onto it. GL
