our bioengineering department is unique in having a lot of industry background (several professors have done / are currently running biotech ventures) and a lot of pre-professionalism (1/3 of the kids want to be actualy bioengineers, 1/3 are premed, 1/3 are something else, like pre-law or business-minded or venture capital stuff)

we're ranked 6th or 7th in the country, so it's not bad at all, and we have a ton of integration with the med school and the vet school (not so much with food sciences).

however, pharmaceuticals are more a chemical / biomolecular engineering field, while natural resources / environment are more our earth / natural sciences department.

penn bioengineering is mainly focused on biomedical devices and imaging solutions, and related applications.
