<p>University X has 90 engineering graduates, each paid $60,000 in jobs after graduation, and 10 biology graduates, each paid $36,000 in jobs after graduation. Average pay is $57,600.</p>
<p>University Y has 10 engineering graduates, each paid $63,000 in jobs after graduation, and 90 biology graduates, each paid $39,000 in jobs after graduation. Average pay is $41,400.</p>
<p>So even though University X shows a higher pay average overall, it is due to the mix of majors, not because its students in each major are paid more (in this example, they are paid less than the same majors from University Y). In other words, be careful about drawing conclusions in average pay for graduates over entire schools.</p>
