so I just got my HP Pavillion laptop and I realized that just by hooking the charger from my laptop to the outlet I was able to get power (without the battery). Is it necessary to use the battery even when you're inside or would that damage the laptop in any way?

Most of the time you would just want to leave the battery in. It shouldn’t effect it too much. I have read though that if you plan on using it for hours on end on power, you might want to remove the battery, but you should be fine. One nice thing about having the battery in while plugged in is that if the power were to go out or something gets disconnected, your laptop stayed powered and you don’t loose your work.

It’s sometimes a good idea to remove the battery if you’re going to be plugged into the wall for an extended period of time, because the battery life can be negatively affected otherwise.
