i'm international medical student ,in a 7 year medical program, and i 'm in my 4th year of study
i won green card lottery and so far i decide to move to US (which is always my dream) and start all over again. in this regard i have some questions:

my biggest concern is ,for getting my transcripts from medical university i am attending now i should quit the program (otherwise they won't give me that) now i don't know whether this will count against me in applying for med schools in US? or this would be an advantage for me because of all the patient contact experience i have?

2.we do not have pre med in my country and we got accepted in medical school after high school . so my other problem is i don't know whether they accept my countries high school and one college lessons as a prerequisite courses i need for medical application.
what should i do about it?? do they accept some of my medical schools lessons for pre med? (like physiology- anatomy- biochem)

3.would you please help me and give me an idea from where to start and which university or college is best in my case ?

From what I understand, most medical schools here require you to take your pre-reqs in the US and most will want you to have a bachelor’s degree. As a result you will likely need to take, at minimum, your prereqs here. You may also have to take 3-4 years to earn a BA/BS here in the US prior to applying to a US med school. Most likely, they will not accept your med school courses for the prereqs. You will also need to take the MCAT and score well (i.e., 31+/85th percentile). Best of luck.

thanks
i know they won’t accept my medical courses for prereqs, i want the undergraduate college or university accept my medical courses for one of they majors so that i could just spend one year at undergraduate university and apply to med school after that

is this possible ?

and what about my first question ,will quitting my current medical program be a disadvantage for me?

That’s up to each UG, but I would be surprised if your coursework were to be accepted, to be honest. At best, they might count your international coursework for elective credit, which could count toward graduation, but you would most likely still have to fulfill all general studies req’ts and major req’ts, which would still take you a good 3 years at a US institution prior to applying for med school.

I don’t know how the greencard lottery works but why don’t you finish your medical school training there and then come over here and take exams? Its a much easier process and less time consuming than starting all over. Just curious, where are you from if you don’t mind?

Techy233 thank you , do you know any other programs? (NYC is a bit expensive city, am i right?)

chemfreak, i live in iran and for now iran is restricted area in USMLE site, and i don’t know whether 4 years later (that my MD program is finished) this political problems are solved or not (i think it’s not wise to count on that)

sorry everybody but i should ask it one more time cause it’s very important for me: will quitting my current medical program be a disadvantage for me in applying to medical school in US or not?

I don’t think it’ll matter if you come to undergraduate in the US. I do think you may have to consider going to UG for three years or so, before getting a master’s. Also, depending on your English skills, you may have trouble doing well enough on the MCAT to be accepted into the US medical college. If you are still in your early 20s, I don’t think there’s a rush to go to medical school. CUNYs themselves are cheap, and some of them provide housing.

If $ is an issue, coming to the US may itself be a problem, no? Medical School isn’t cheap, neither are college expenses. Depending on how the lottery works, can’t you become a Doctor in your country, and then come to the US? There are plenty of successful foreign doctors here.

i know finishing med in my country is much wiser but as i told you now due to political problems of my country , i cannot take USMLE exam (restricted) i don’t know whether 4 years later things would change or not!

do you think universities will accept my courses for transferring to undergraduate biology or physiology major?

another thing: can i go to community college (instead of 4 year uni) and then apply to med school? (i mean they count all my courses in my med school as an undergraduate study in international university and that 2 year of community college as a US study)

oh if only i didn’t love medicine this much :(:-<
please show me some ways
