HS Awards on App

I just have one question about my awards and transferring them to my application. Many awards are given by my school to the one student with the most achievment in each class. (Excellence in AP US Government and Politics, Excellence in Honors US History, etc.) I have received like 10 of these in my high-school career, but was wondering about placing them on my application. Would they be beneficial to put on my app or will the adcoms just glance by them, while dismissing them as meaningless school awards? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On the Harvard forum they said if its not national or international awards don't do it. I don't know how that translates to less selective universities though, sorry :(

You could put them down, but absent an explanation, more than likely they'd be overlooked. You could maybe ask your counselor or school to wrote a short note of explanation to be included with your app?

I personally wouldn't put awards won for a class, it seems like your grade is already reflective of how well you did. On the other hand, awards for extracurricular activities would be worth noting.

I guess if you really wanted to, you could do something like... "Won excellence award for _____________ in __ classes."

Yea, I agree. Don't put these on (won't do much/anything if you do), perhaps ask one of these class teachers for a letter.

I put EVERYTHING I could think of on my application. I got these awards for the best student in AP Calculus AB, AP Chem, AP Calc BC, and AP Stat, and I put them down with numerous other state awards for bowling, soccer, and envirothon, etc.

I'm not recommending putting them down or anything, because I'm not sure if they were beneficial or not - but I got in, so that should mean something.

thanks, yeh i'll probably list them down somewhere as i cant see them actually hurting and i might as well fit them in

I think this (HiWei's) is the best way to do it:

"Won excellence award for _____________ in __ classes."
