Some colleges I was previously looking at say they recommended 2 years of a foreign language course. I've only taken one year of a foreign language. Does that mean that I have no chance of getting into a college that "recommends" 2 years of a foreign language course?

If they only “recommend” 2 years, then you’ll still be able to apply. It might hurt your chances, although I’m guessing the college isn’t too hard to get accepted into anyways, since they only recommend 2 years, and not require any. I’d try to get more foreign language though if you can…

I was worried about this, so I took classes at a CC and got 3 years of FL.

most schools REQUIRE AT LEAST 2. but in this case, i guess it wont help. might hurt a little bit tho.

what if the school is MIT?

lol you wont get in. top 25 schools require at least 3, some cases 2 due to schedule difficulty i guess.

MIT recommends 2, it didn’t say anything about requirements of any classes whatsoever.

The problem with “recommendations” of top schools is that it is what they prefer, and because they have so many applicants who follow all of their recommendations it can do nothing but hurt you not to.

For MIT though, they’ll be looking at other factors first.

Ouch. Yeah, it does hurt if you only take one year.

What if you take 3 years for a school that recommends 4? Is it just as bad as taking 1 versus 2 recommended or will they look at it a little better?

no. if its schedle diffciulty. it not, maybe
