HS Curriculum - Any suggestions/ changes you would make?

Yes, correct. We need to make a selection in the History/Social Sciences group. Those choices are either Econ, Business, History or Psych.

As an IB Diploma Program student, she will need a foreign language. Hindi is entirely appropriate.

I’m concerned about the total lack of history unless she chooses History as part of her IB curriculum. I wonder how U.S. colleges will feel about this. It’s quite different from the preparation that U.S. students get. Perhaps a few e-mails to U.S. colleges (not necessarily the ones she hopes to apply to) would be appropriate.

Another possibility would be two social sciences, one of which is history and one of which she likes better. But she could only do that if the second social science was her sixth subject and she dropped Drama. Would she go along with that idea?

While certainly an option, personally I am a big fan that exposure to the arts should be part of the HS curriculum, and would avoid this option, if possible.

You are getting all types of advice. The only further piece of advice I would give is that the schedule should not be molded for the purpose of impressing a hypothetical AO or conforming to a magic schedule to appease admissions at the expense of your DD’s interests; that just runs the risk of ending badly on several levels. While I do think that it would be beneficial for her to have a history course about the host country, IMO as long as you have social sciences covered, you’re fine. But as I said upthread, validate with potential colleges to ease your mind.

Unfortunately I think Drama will be dropped to allow for a second science. Not my preference but she really wants to fit in the second science.

Be aware that some schools do require a year of high school art or music for frosh admission (e.g. California and South Dakota public universities).

Thanks - she will have two years of Drama…it will be dropped only in the IB program (11th and 12th).

When my son did his research for colleges last year, only Princeton stated 2 years history as requirement. Others stated History/Social Science.

@anaesabc I guess you didn’t apply to Harvard: “The study of history for at least two, and preferably three years: American history, European history, and one additional advanced history course” https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/preparing-college/choosing-courses

I don’t think even Harvard would require American history for a student who isn’t coming from a school in the United States.

Agree with mathmom. History is part of cultural literacy. High school is not just career preparation. For that matter, neither is college, but I know that, as usual, I’m undoubtedly a minority voice here.

Marian makes a good point about a non-U.S. student (American history), but keep in mind that global awareness does include, well, the U.S. Again, this is part of cultural literacy, imho.
