Unless you are currently in a country like Sweden, I am surprised that the language of the host country is not required.
The teaching of Latin American Spanish is a red herring; it’s all Spanish. It’s like moving from the US to Australia and studying English. The kid just does not wanted to continue Spanish. And she should definitely not just skip a year and resume
If she is just one that struggles with FL, the language of they host country will likely not be any easier. And as pointed out, 3+1 is not 4. The good news is that there are very few colleges that request 4 years. They had news is that many of the colleges that suggest 3 or 4 years in HS also require FL to graduate college. In theory, the more she does in HS, the less she would need an college where the pace is faster.
@skieurope You might be surprised that the host language is not required, but it is in fact not. It is an international school, they do not require HS students who move there mid high school to start taking a new language even if it is the host country’s language. However, she has considered starting to study the language regardless of whether it translates to something accepted in college for the mere fact she would be interested in learning the host language and having the opportunity to practice the language.
It may be all “Spanish” but there are different pronunciations and dialects even within Spain which make understanding and speaking during conversation tricky.
