Hello CCers,
I am currently a HS junior and I received my SAT Scores from the March examination. I got a 710 CR, 740 Math, and 780 Writing (11 Essay, 75 Grammar). I know I have to retake it, but I'm not going to retake unless I know (with great confidence) that I can score above 2300 total (2230 right now). Now, I will be applying to college regular decision next fall and that means I can take the Oct/Nov 2010 tests if I so please. I am considering studying VERY hard over the summer (lots of practice tests, reading, grammar, vocabulary, essay writing practice) and then giving the test in October 2010.

Is this a good idea? I read on this forum that one student got a similar score to me the first time he took it (March-ish of his junior year), studied very hard over the summer after 11th grade, and then scored a 2400 in October. Is this doable for someone like me (good at math, pretty intelligent, and willing to work)? Thanks everyone and congrats to everyone who did well on their March SATs!

it’s a great idea.

2300+ is a definite possibility (800 M, 750 CR, 780 W)

2400, is a bit more iffy, you can definitely get that 800 in W and M, but I think CR is a bit of a toss up.

sorry to jack your thread, but would it be wise to retake an SAT by writing the very next administration of the SAT? (ie. im taking the MAY sat, but should i retake in June again?)

I’m hoping to score in the range of the OP. So, could i improve into 2300s in that 1 month time frame?

i’m asking because i still need to prep for subject tests + ACT over the summer and right IMMEDIATELY next year because i wanna apply to BS-MD. So, what do you guys suggest…i guess the OP could consider the option of writing in June as well if they see improvement into the 2300s.

Would it be bad to not get into 2300s by my June SAT and then have to re-write again the following year to get 2300?

My opinion is to take the Subject Tests in June (since that’s when your finals (and you take APs in May) are, so you have the prep already).

@viggyram, i guess its okay, but it would depend on your May result. If you get a 2200 and your aim is 2300…one month might not be enough. Improving a score once you get into the higher range, is a lot harder that improving a score in lower ranges (1800 to 1900).

brownman23, that’s what I was thinking, too. I’m concentrating on Subject Tests (Chemistry, Math II, and possibly World History) right now and once I’m done with that in June, I’ll study for regular SATs.

I know that 2400 is iffy because of CR, but I know that I can do better in Writing and Math. I just could not figure out a problem in Math this time (I’m still bitter about it). Thanks!
