HS Math Sequence - Norm?

The names of the classes in high school math have changed a lot since the old days (when we used our slide rules, d*mn it, and knew how to extract cube roots with paper and pencil.
Generally, alg 1 - geo - alg 2 - precal - calc ( plain , AB or BC) is the route.
some schools have alg 1 alg 2 geo precal calc
There are generally honors or non-honors for each class.
AP stat can fit in anywhere after (roughly) alg. 2.
Kids aiming at good colleges tend to get to calc, but not always, particularly if they get badly tracked at the start. Kids can play catchup over the summer too.

Roflmao, Calc by senior year is a standard.
“Badly tracked” lolz.

algebra1->geometry->algebra2 or algebra2/trig -> math analysis or precalc ->calc ab or calc bc
stats can be taken anytime after algebra2

My school’s optional path:

9th Alg II/Trig -> 10th Calc BC -> 11th Calc D/Linear Alg -> 12th Advanced Topics or w/e

This is what I’m doing. Do a lot of other schools do this? And what is even crazier three freshmen were in my BC class (I am a junior now).

^
Very few schools do anything like that. There was an 8th grader in my BC class last year and one other sophomore (online).

^^
Hmm, I’m doing that path, with about 15 other kids. And yea we have like 3 freshman in AP Calc BC as well…(one of whom already took the AP Calc BC test in 8th grade, and got a 5).

I guess the truly normal kids go like:

9th - Geometry
10th-Algebra 1
11th-Algebra 2
12th-Precalculus

But that’s like really, really normal.

My school:

For the dumb kids: Pre-Alegbra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II

For everyone else: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Algebra III/Trig, then Pre-Cal if they want.

I don’t know whether or not Trig comes in after Alg.2. in some other schools but this was my math sequence

8th – Algebra 1 Honors
9th – Geometry Honors
10th – Algebra 2
11th – Trigonometry & Advanced Mathematical Analysis (both are half-semester courses.)
12th – Pre-Calculus/AP Statistics (I’m taking both.)

For some reason you can take PreCal and AP Statistics at the same time, but never PreCal and AP Cal at the same time. If this were a real case, they need to offer precalulus in summer school. Unfortunately they dont in my school district.

My math sequence is stupid. Of course they finally changed it THIS year, when I’m already halfway through.
8th - Algebra I Honors (not that this honors will ever count for anything since its in MS)
9th - Algebra II Honors
10th - Geometry Honors (what? how does this joke of a class come in here??)
11th - Pre-Calculus Honors (it’s really Trig and more complex Algebra)
12th - AP Calculus / AP Statistics (i’m taking both, which is a good idea with probably painful consequences)
The non-honors kids and the freshmen have a much better sequence, I don’t know what happened to us. They have Geo in between the Algebras, which is more normal & logical.

Normal/Most common/Noobs
Pre-Algebra (8th grade) —> Algebra 1 (9) —> Geometry (10) —> Algebra 2 (11) —> Pre-Calculus (12)

Honors/Me
Algebra 1 (8th grade) —> Honors Geometry (9) —> Honors Algebra 2 (10) —> Honors Pre-Calculus (11) —> AP Calculus AB/BC (12)

I was different because I went like dis:
Pre Algebra (8th Grade) —> Algebra 1A (Summer school) ----> Algebra 1B and Honors Geometry (10) and the rest from above. My school has trimesters so we only get math classes 2 of 3 trimesters. I enjoyed my trimester without Algebra 2 already.

Very re… I meant “unsmart” people.
Pre Algebra (8th grade) —> Pre Algebra (again lol) and Algebra 1 (9) —> Pre Geometry and Geometry (10) —> Pre Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 (11) —> Math Skills for Life which basically you learn how to add/subtract/multiply/divide taxes, loans, etc.

Not the Brightest:
9- Algebra 1,
10- Geometry
11 - Algebra II
12 - Option of Algebra III or some other trimester courses

Norm:
8- Algebra
9- Geometry
10- Algebra II
11- Pre Cal
12- AP Stats or AP Cal AB

Honors/Me:
8- Algebra 1 H
9- Geo H
10- Alg 2 H
11- PreCal H
12- AP Cal BC

My math sequence (average/below average, but good enough for Cambridge)

9th: Algebra 2/Trig
10th: Pre Calculus; Calculus over summer
11th: Calculus BC, Linear Algebra
12th: Multivariate Calculus, Differential Equations (AP Stats lol)

Lowest track possible (only about 2 students per year)
Geometry –> Algebra II –> Basic Statistics –> no math senior year

Regular Track:
Geometry –> Algebra II/Trig –> Precalc –> Calculus

Math Track:
Geometry Honors –> Algebra II/Trig Honors –> Precalc Honors –> AP Calc AB

Fast Track:
Algebra II/Trig –> Precalc –> Calc –> AP Calc AB or AP Stats

Fast Math Track:
Algebra II/Trig Honors –> Precalc Honors –> AP Calc AB –> AP Calc BC and/or AP Stats

Super Fast Math Track:
Algebra II/Trig Honors –> Accelerated Precalc Honors –> AP Calc BC –> an advanced math

Track for students who want to move from Math Track to Adv Math Track:
Geometry Honors –> Algebra II/Trig Honors –> Accelerated Precalc Honors –> AP Calc BC (and often AP Stats)

If you’re a super math genius, then there are more advanced classes, like Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra.

I’m in the Fast Math Track, but the majority of the students are in the Math Track.

All start in 7th grade

“Lower” track: Pre-Algebra –> Algebra 1A –> Algebra 1B –> Geometry –> Algebra II –> Precalculus

“Normal” track: Algebra 1A –> Algebra 1B –> Geometry –> Algebra II –> Precalculus –> Calculus AB

“Honors” track: Algebra 1A Honors –> Algebra 1B Honors –> Geometry Honors –> Algebra II Honors –> Precalculus Honors –> Calculus BC

Me: Algebra 1A Honors –> Algebra 1B Honors –> Geometry (over summer between 8th and 9th) –> Algebra II Honors –> Precalculus Honors –> Calculus BC –> Linear equations or calc 3 at local college.

I’m a year or two late but couldn’t resist posting.
At my Catholic HS, we students look like idiots compared to a lot of you guys.

Idiots… (everything starting in 9th grade)
Basic algebra
Basic Geometry
Algebra II, pt.1
Algebra II, pt.2

The Graphic Designers/History majors to-be…
Algebra I
Geometry
Algebra II
Pre-calc, or “senior-math”

The STEM majors to-be…
H-Algebra I
H-Geometry (plus Alg. II)
H-Precalc (plus review of Alg. II)
AP Calc AB or H-Calc

Trig is thrown into geometry and precalc.

For my school normal math goes like:

Algebra 1---->Geometry---->Algebra 2----->Algebra 3

My school…
Since we’re a merge IB/Regular school, I have no clue how it works for the regular courses…

IB

In general

MYP Geometry -> MYP Alg 2 or MYP Alg 2/Trig -> IB Math SL/HL 1 or Adv Math or Prob/Stat -> IB Math SL 2/HL 2, IB Math Studies, Adv Math, or Prob/Stat

^^ What goes into an Algebra III class, anyway? Is it just Algebra II broken into two years, or is there more advanced stuff in there?

6th grade: 6th grade math
7th grade: pre-algebra
8th grade: algebra 1 (bad kids get put in “algebra readiness” and then go to algebra 1 in 9th grade)
9th grade: geometry
10th grade: algebra 2
11th grade: pre-calculus
12th grade: AP Calc AB

some kids get put in to pre-algebra in 6th grade, and then skip algebra 1 and later pre-calculus so that they’re in ap calc AB in 9th grade, BC in 10th, and then independent study / college classes in 11th / 12th

At my school it goes
Algebra1-Geometry-Advanced Algebra-Functions,Statistics,and Trigonometry(yes that is a class)-PreCalculus and Discrete Mathematics-AP Calc (AP Stats goes somewhere here)
I screwed with that in my school so it is going
9th- Geometry
Alg2
10th- Advanced Algebra Honors, Precalculus, CalcI
11th/12th-Stats, Linear Alg, Diff Eq, whatever else I have time for
