HS Schedule & AP Classes?

I've got some concerns over my junior (and senior) year planning right now in HS. I have two semesters left open in both years, and I've been debating between study hall or AP Physics (which is a two year program at my school. So if I take it junior year, I'll most likely end up taking it senior year as well.)

My schedule for junior year would be:
AP English Lang
Honors Pre-Calc
AP Chem
APUSH
Orchestra
French 3

I'm just worried about piling on too many AP classes during this year, because I know I want to actually do well in these classes and on the AP exams for them as well. I'd rather not overload myself with too much work and get a lower score on the exams simply because I put too much on myself. I've also heard that study hall is generally frowned upon by most people - considered to be a "waste" of space but I'm worried I won't have the time. There's also the fact that a lot of colleges have pre-reqs for physics as well, so it may be in my benefit to take some form of physics.

Senior schedule would look something like this:
AP English Lit
AP Calc
AP Bio
AP Gov't/Personal Finance
Orchestra
French 4

I would put another study hall in if I decided not to take any physics. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should take? Sorry for the long post, and thanks! Cheers! :D

Haha your junior year schedule looks almost exactly like mkne

Let’s cry over it together, lol.

This is my predicted Junior Year schedule! Except… no French or Orchestra… I’ll be in Honors Spanish 4, Honors Chinese 3, and Honors Latin 2… and Gym ;(

I would say take physics. But it really depends on your school. At my school, every AP class gives at least 1.5 hours of homework EVERY NIGHT. This makes it a struggle to carry on with ECs.

I have noticed many other people here on CC say they have 20-30 minutes of hw a night in their AP classes. This is why some are taking 7 AP classes… At my school 4 is an extreme feat… and then come the ECs to swallow the rest of your time…

Well I don’t know you very well, but you’re definitely not in too many AP classes. In fact, I would seriously recommend taking physics; it shows that you’re a good problem solver and a hard worker. I took 4 AP exams last year and got 5s on all if them without any additional studying outside of what we did in class. This year I’m taking 6 and I don’t anticipate major differences.

If you haven’t taken physics, you really need to. There are many colleges that strongly recommend or require one year each of bio, chem, and physics. If they require physics and you haven’t taken it, its pretty much an auto reject (unless your school doesn’t offer it). Also, having a study hall for two years will look bad, especially if your peers don’t.

Thanks for the help & suggestions everyone! I’ll probably take physics then! :)
