HS Senior wanting to transfer

Alright I didn't apply to Maryland becuase I knew I wouldn't get in. 2.3 GPA 1400 Sats. What will I need to do in college in order to be able to transfer in my sophomore year. I will most likely go to st.johns or Suny Albany but I dislike both of those schools. Also how is the social life at maryland? Is it considered a party school? Is it a competitive school??

I wouldn't know but I think a 3.0 would be sufficient. I know if you get 30 credits from Montgomery community college with a 3.0 you are automatially in...

yeah that makes me mad about moco community college haha, us AACC folk don't have that automatic acceptance nonsense. dammit

Naptown--I believe AACC has the same thing.

So what woudl you have to do if your out of state

nah, it doesnt. well it does if you get an associate's degree first, but not the 30 credit thing.

SUNY Albany is going to be a much bigger party school than UMD. That being said, UMD is definitely not lacking on the social scene. UMD Administration has been trying to get Maryland away from having the party school reputation, but it's still pretty much a decent one. If you want to party all the time, you can. Unless you have a good ID, don't expect to get into most of the bars or be able to buy booze. The local stores are notorious for confiscating IDs. If you want some actual details, then PM me.

Maryland is very competitive, especially Engineering disciplines, CS, Business, and Criminal Justice.

I was just wondering how much have they cracked down on partying?? UMD has been ranked in the top 20 in parties but i have heard that they have been trying to stop it, just as you said. I really want to have some fun.

lol they're not cracking down on partying, how would they? by setting a curfew? confiscating all red cups on the campus? outlawing beer pong? lol please, dont make me laugh

they're trying to clean up the party scene a little--encouraging fraternities to have registered parties instead of "illegal" ones at off-campus houses. UMD itself really can't do anything about off-campus parties, that's the job of the CP police. they won't mess with a party unless it's really noisy, and then it's a noise violation and maybe an alcohol citation. honestly though, there are parties everywhere. we're a top 20 party school for a reason :p
