HS Senior Year GPA

Does anyone have insight on the importance of HS Senior year GPA on an appointment to USNA? Has anyone been asked for a copy of their GPA during their senior year?

I believe that you are asked to send in an official transcript after the fall semester of your senior year. That would be the only thing with a GPA on it. But that was the first time I did it back for the c/o 2009. Now, its probably online and your counselor just updates it. But don’t hold me to that.

Your Senior year GPA is important in that it shows the Academy you are continuing on the right path and not slacking off. If it should drop, it could give them reason to question your application and potentially withdraw the appointment. They know that life and academics at the Academy are tough and they want to make certain that each individual is up to the challenge. It does them no good to coddle anyone.

Exactly correct.

It has been known to happen: Some kid gets an appointment then blows off 2nd semester of senior year in HS thinking he's got it made. <buzzer> WRONG ANSWER! Appointment retracted!</buzzer>

Welcome to the big leagues, Junior! It's nose-to-the-grindstone until graduation........... in 2011! ;)

Socal.....yes I do know of people who have been asked for GPA reports througout senior year. These were candidates who obviously the Admin Board was looking very closely at.....and I know in one case, even after that request and a compliance with the Board to retake the SAT in senior year...the young person did not get an Appointment. But Zaphod is also correct...even AFTER an LOA or an Appointment if you blow your senior year in high school, your offer could be rescinded. Our daughter last year at her high school had a standard form they filled out in the spring that automatically sent to the college of their acceptance a final transcript. USNA may or may not have ever looked at it, I dunno...but I do know she knew her grades, class rank, etc. was definitely being reported to them.

WHAT! (A Faith Hill moment.) I didn't know an appointment could be rescinded. It's best to keep senior year as squared away as you can.

That's why those AP classes are good they keep you pushing until May.

A final grade report was sent by son's school automatically. Son received appointment before the end of the first term however did not accept appointment until well into the second term. USNA never asked him for a mid-term grade report. Most civilian schools did require mid-term grade reports.

While we were not asked to send a mid-term grade report during senior year, the USNA required a final transcript from HS to be sent following graduation. This request came in the huge pile of paperwork that was received following the acceptance of the offer of appointment.

Also, if you will be playing a varsity sport, a final HS transcript will also need to be sent to the NCAA clearinghouse for final clearance.

A word to the wise: make your requests to have this information sent PRIOR to the end of the school year in the spring and before guidance offices close for the summer!
