I've wanted to go here forever. White Male, NJ. Unfortunately I started my high school career off slowly. I had a 2.8 GPA last year (freshman). This year I stayed hit bottom with an F in a class 1st marking period. This dropped my GPA for soph year to a 2.56. However, since then i Have gotten a 3.56 second marking period, and now a 3.4 third marking period, I am on the upturn. I am looking to finish this year with or about with a 3.0 GPA. I am taking honors english this year and doing very well in it. I have good extra curriculars (camp counselor for 4 years, Job at bagel shop, rec basketball 4 years, etc.) Next year, my junior year, I'm taking 2 honors courses and clearly I'm on the upward trend. i took the SATs in seventh grade and with absolutely zero prep I got 1550/2400. Since then i have learned a lot of the material I didnt know and I am a great standardized test taker, and My parents are going to make me take prep courses. If I can get my grade up to about a 3.3 or 3.4 by the end of my junior year, and have the clear uptrend in my grades, with good SATs, and solid ECs, do you think I could get into my dream school of villanova?

I’m not sure, if you want to apply to the business school you will probably be rejected (sorry). It’s just way too competitive. But if you apply to A&S your GPA still isn’t great. I got waitlisted when I had an overall GPA of (UW)3.5 and my junior year GPA was around (UW)3.6. Try to get an A in all of your remaining class, good luck!

keep getting A’s but if you get good SAT scores I think you’ll get in! be careful what major you pick though, it does make a difference

You posted the same thing in five other college forums…

because im trying to scope things out

anyone else?

To be blunt, it’s a longshot. You’ll need to ace the rest of sophomore year as well as junior year and first semester senior year.

SAT’s will have to be in the 2000/2400 range and your essay better do a spectacular job explaining your slow start.

Some schools will downplay freshman year, cutting you some slack for having to make the transition from middle school to high school. I don’t know if Villanova is one of those schools.

Make sure to apply to some other schools with less stringent entrance requirements. If you do well freshman year, you can always try and transfer to 'Nova.

its not impossible, decent shot if youre legacy. i had a 3.5 on the nose when i got in last year. with a good essay and recommendations, its possible

I’m not really one to talk because I got in Early Action, but if I were you, I’d keep my options open. Remember when looking at schools next year that you need to have safeties, maybies, and reach schools. I’d say that Villanova and schools with similar rankings would be high reaches for you (sorry). However, if you keep trying for the rest of high school, you can always go to another college for freshman year and see if you can transfer in for sophomore year.

Oh, and Villanova is really big on volunteering for a good cause. Since you’re weak in many areas, play up the volunteering. (and villanova doesn’t look at SAT writing, so focus on reading and math)
