I am hoping to major in finance and something else (Accounting, English, or Econ) to eventually end up working in a finance related job, hopefully, in NYC.

The list of schools I will apply too includes:

Penn State (College Park)
Indiana (Bloomington)
And a few safeties

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions like a Penn State or Indiana (meaning solid business school but possible for me to get into, assuming Penn State is my ceiling. I should add I am from Virginia, and money is not a limiting factor.

Apply to the best schools in the northeast and a close to NYC as possible. If you want to be on Wall St, then forget midwest/south. Indiana would only be decent if you were considering Chicago. Even then there are much feeder schools for Chicago financial industry, like Michigan or ND.

A Tier 3 university near NYC will give you better networking & internship opps than a respectable regional school located a thousand miles away. Geography is not something that stressed enough: you can only get the interviews if you’re located nearby or if they recruit from your school. If not, then you’re stuck moving to them without a job in hand. It’s doable, but risky.
