HS Transcript Question

Does it look odd to colleges to send in your HS transcript long after you send in your application?

I'm working on trying to get my closest deadline ones in October finished, but one of my classes has no grade. Like, not a zero, he just hasn't put in any graded work. I know that I'll have a really good grade in there, and it's Biology, so since I'm listing Biology as a first choice interest, I'd like to show that I'm doing well. Also, I kind of want to give colleges a chance to see that my grades aren't "Just get one 100 hw grade in each class and send in the transcript ASAP," but that I really have earned the grades across multiple assignments.

You need to check what your high school actually sends. Most high schools send grades through last completed semester, meaning when you apply in fall what your high school will send is a transcript through junior year and it will also provide a list of senior courses being taken without any grades for those. Moreover, the only grades shown on the transcript for any course are the end of each semester grades. Then, after your application is complete with all required materials, many colleges require you to send in Jan/early Feb a “mid-year” report providing a transcript of your first semester senior year grades. No high schools provide homework grades on transcript but some may give mid-semester senior year grades on the initial transcript sent in fall.

As to colleges that require mid-year reports, they use those grades along with other grades to determine admission. Nevertheless, a large number of colleges, including majority of public universities make admission decisons based on grades through junior year and do not even want senior year grades until after you are admitted. In any event, you have no reason to delay sending the transcript under some concern that homework or other interim grades are going to be shown because they are not, and you cannot delay sending a transcript until January because you are required to send the first one before any application deadline date.
