Would an upward trend in GPA be ultimately frowned upon by Cornell admissions? Freshman and Sophomore year have been extremely rough years for me (taking quality of life, a rocky home life and thus emotional stability into mind) my Junior year GPA has risen very sharply to signify a new beginning and chapter in my life.

Does this very apparent upward trend now put my transcript in a different light - showing that the I am clearly is capable of achieving extraordinary grades? I'm afraid that beause of my horrid Freshman and Sophomore year grades that I will not be considered. I'd hope that the applicant is viewed in the aforementioned realistic light. After all, we're all human, and life can be a bumpy road.

I am aware that there are many more facets to just GPA, but it has me very worried that my early highschool marks will ultimately shy me into the rejection pile. Paranoia. :( Keep in mind I'm a Junior now.

I think that an upward trend is better than a downward one, but if your frosh/soph grades are REALLY bad (like on the border of failing), you might not be considered...

I believe there's a couple C- and B-. Sophomore there's a D and I believe 1 C. To be honest I don't recall much from those years. Junior year...all A+ in the most rigorous schedule.

I'm hoping my passion for writing (furthermore the arts) and aiding my community would slightly offset the dent in my transcript. Not to mention the essay, which I presume will be very good, as I pour my everything into my writing.

what kind of classes are you taking? My GPA has been going down from freshman year because the intensity of the classes I've been taking has been going up.

4 Freshman(3 Honors, others regular) --> 3.9875 Soph. (4 Honors, others regulars) --> 3.92 (4 APs, 2 honors)

Does it really look that bad, the trend in my unweighted GPA?

Tux - I wouldn't worry! :) I believe admissions would take into account the relative decrease due to an increasing courseload difficulty. If it were more drastic I would understand, but I wouldn't fret. You still have part of your Senior year as well.
