I didn’t see a thread for it, so here it is!
Who else is applying?

I’m considering it, even though my school already has a summer research program. I’m just paranoid that my school will not place me in a research field I indicated interest for, as that happened to many seniors at my school last year. I’m also interested in possibly doing a Siemens/Regeneron project as well as publishing a research paper by the end of the summer, too.
I don’t see much information on HSHSP- the website seems kind of outdated. How do you apply?
@Lumitailz If you click the program announcement, all the 2017 info is on it!
I did this program a few years ago and loved it! Let me know if you have any questions.
really really want to attend but I don’t have any research (or CS) experience and I heard it’s sooo competitive… should I apply?
@maria93101 is it okay if I ask some qs about this program? Through PM or on here? I’m also interested in this program. It sounds pretty cool, but how competitive is it? I know it definitely is super competitive, but i’m just curious about the actual acceptance rate.
Also I saw that the student body is quite small, of only 24 students. does that hinder the experience or does that just mean it is very hard to get into? @maria93101
This is a highly selective program. I believe the year my DC attended they received well over 300 applications for 24 spots. Six or seven of those students made it to semifinals in Siemens or Intel. Admission results for the group were impressive as well with most of them attending top 10 universities.
Wonder whether this is worth applying for. Of course, I’m excited at the thought of the camp, but the admission rate is so impossibly low
I highly encourage everyone to apply! I am also an alum of HSHSP (with Maria :)), and it was the best summer of my life. I didn’t think I had very good chances of getting in, but I think there is a strong emphasis on the essays for admission. Remember, you have a 0% chance if you don’t apply. Feel free to pm me, too.
Hi, I am applying for HSHSP this year as well. How many books did you guys add to the reading list? I am not sure how many they want.
Any one did math project at HSHSP?
My son wants to do Math research. He attended math camps HCSSiM, SUMaC and learnt advanced math topics. Afer the summer camps he has been taking advanced math classes through out the school years. Now, this summer he wants to do research in math. Does HSHSP have math projects?
I attended HSHSP 2016. There were no math research projects last year, but I’m not sure about past years. However, there were some projects that required use of statistics and applied math. I probably had the most math-heavy project (in theoretical nuclear physics). If you’re interested in pure math, however, HSHSP probably is not the right program.
Also, to answer questions about selectivity, the acceptance rate was between 6-7% last year (about 400 applicants for 24 spots). Definitely competitive, but so worth applying!!!
what did everyone put as their preferred research areas? I put neuroscience and genetics
does anyone know when they notify you if you got accepted?
@ALY90, i think they come out may 1st!
also hm i’m in a bit of a dilemma – i am currently reading more books that are more physics-related and I really want to email the program to add the books onto my books list – should I do it??? and I have finished one of the courses I am taking online and now I have started another one – I feel like I should add that on as well…
Does Dr. Richmond send out a confirmation email when she receives your application?
