Hi everyone,

Just today, I was informed that a professor has accepted me for City of Hope. In addition, I have also received an acceptance from HSHSP. I'm kinda torn between the two right now and I have to confirm by next week. Any input would be wonderful!

HSHSP pros:
I've heard lots of positive feedback from past alumni
High chance of Intel/Seimans
12% acceptance rate

HSHSP cons:
I have to pay 3k for the program

City of Hope pros:
I get PAID 4k
5% acceptance rate

City of Hope cons:
I haven't heard much about this program
No clue on my chance for a published paper

Now I know most of you will probably tell me to pursue the program that has the subject I am most interested in, but obviously, I have already considered all these factors. Both programs offer research topics that I am VERY interested in (CoH is stem cells and HSHSP is nuclear physics). Thus, I just want to know more about both programs: the experience I will get from it and which program will be better to get a published paper/Intel/Seimans

Thank you CC for being such a wonderful community,
Kevin

City of Hope, definitely. Other than the fact that you get a stipend, it’s actually not as obscure as you think, and the program website says, “Many of our students have their names included on published research papers, and some have even patented and sold inventions developed with their mentors.”

@chaseholl thank you for your input. It seems that HSHSP isn’t the right choice LOL. Basically everyone was like TAKE THE 4K!!! hahah, thank you so much!

I am ridiculously jealous. City of Hope merely for its competitiveness. I saw that it accepted high school and undergrads and I was like, I don’t belong here. If you want to pursue medicine, City of Hope is also more closely related. If you want more freedom, do HSHSP. (This is considering that money is not a factor.) Again, congratulations.

Thanks everyone for your input
@karaokemachine I’m planning on a going into med for college so I think I’m going to city of hope
@hellocollegelife It works PERFECTLY for me, I have a week before I start the intern and a week after I end for summmer fun LOL

City of Hope - it looks lot better on your application you got paid for a highly selective internship than you paid to get into a summer program even if selective.

thank you texaspg. I really appreciate your input!
