Anyone done this? I'm thinking of applying this year - it's really the only research-oriented summer program available to sophomores, from what I can tell - and experiences would be helpful. How does it look to colleges? How much work do you do, what did you learn? Did you enter subsequent competetitions with the project done there (intel, siemens)? Etc etc etc. Anything would be helpful, really. Thanks :)

I would like to know too. I applied last year as a sophomore an got rejected (i think i deserved the rejection). So yeah. Are there past particpants here?

also, how competitive is the program in terms of application?

A girl I know who went to SSP became an Intel Semifinalist this year unlike the Rickoid who also attends her high school. So yeah...it's a good program that is open to sophmores/juniors and one can accomplish a great deal of quality scientific research(especially with regards to astronomy) there. Beware, it is also extremely competitive and HSHSP usually takes only 15 kids every year out of about 400 who apply. PM me if you have mroe questions.

400 apply?!?!?! I thought it was more around 100 or so. And by the way, it takes more than 15 kids. HSHSP isn't advertised very well - and SSP, which is advertised better, got 300 last year.

I applied, got waitlisted last year as a sophomore. But I entered an early entrance program, disqualifying me. Meh, and now I miss this experience...

simfish, what other program did u enter?

Early entrance program: UW Academy for Young Scholars:
