I'm trying to decide whether to do HSSP and honors or to do just honors and live in South Quad. HSSP is in Couzens which just got renovated (and looks really nice from the pictures). I hope to do research at the medical school at some point and major in biochemistry or neuroscience. Is south quad really that much more convenient/better?

South Quad has a better location than Couzens. Couzens was recently renovated so it is nicer. South Quad has a cafeteria. Couzens you have to walk to MoJo. South Quad is closer to Big House, Crisler and Yost if you are interested in going to sports events. Also closer to Main St.

You might be able to do both.

Do not do a MLC JUST for the housing, though I would highly recommend HSSP if you’re serious about any sort of pre-health.

Picking a major you’ll care about is a BIG DEAL if you want a competitive premed GPA, so ask lots of current students for advice, keep an open mind, and choose WISELY sometime freshman or sophomore year. Both couzens and SQuad are about equal distance to the Chem (biochem) and Natural Science (neuro) buildings, but Couzens is about 5x closer to the medical school complex (everything).

BTW why is Neuroscience becoming so popular? I already declared a major, just curious.

For location, Couzens is literally < 1 minute walk from Mojo. Also it’s across the street from the med campus/hospital. SQuad is definitely way closer for sporting events and central campus stuff in general.

Just major in something you think you’ll like and can be passionate about. A bunch of my classmates were liberal arts majors, but a bunch were also “hard science” (bio, chem, physics) majors.
