This is a Chinese ranking of American universities that no one on CC has heard about from what I have seen. I think it's probably the best ranking out there. Let me know what you guys think about it.

I would not put too much faith in this local college in Wuhan. It is like the NC State here.

Useless as any other ranking which puts individual numbers on schools. Same issues where schools are certainly going to be seen as over and underrated by different individuals. I don’t see a methodology, and frankly, this is more important to me than rankings because it reveals priorities of rankers and perspective necessary to understand the context of these rankings.

I would be cautious of ANYTHING the chinese produce…

I am asian…

Looks suspiciously like the USNWR ranking. Another case of Chinese espionage? :)

The “Huazhong ranking” has a 2002-2004 copyright date. The Top 20 schools are listed as follows:

1 Princeton University (NJ)
2 Harvard University (MA)
3 Yale University (CT)
4 Massachusetts Inst of Technology
5 California Institute of Technology
6 Duke University (NC)
7 Stanford University (CA)
8 University of Pennsylvania
9 Dartmouth College (NH)
10 Washington University in St Louis
11 Columbia University (NY)
12 Northwestern University (IL)
13 University of Chicago
14 Cornell University (NY)
15 Johns Hopkins University (MD)
16 Rice University (TX)
17 Brown University (RI)
18 Emory University (GA)
19 University of Notre Dame (IN)
20 Vanderbilt University (TN)

The 2004 US News Ranking of National Universities was as follows:

1 Princeton University (NJ)
1 Harvard University (MA)
3 Yale University (CT)
4 Massachusetts Inst of Technology
5 California Institute of Technology
5 Duke University (NC)
5 Stanford University (CA)
5 University of Pennsylvania
9 Dartmouth College (NH)
9 Washington University in St Louis
11 Columbia University (NY)
11 Northwestern University (IL)
13 University of Chicago
14 Cornell University (NY)
14 Johns Hopkins University (MD)
16 Rice University (TX)
17 Brown University (RI)
18 Emory University (GA)
19 University of Notre Dame (IN)
19 Vanderbilt University (TN)

I didn’t check the rest, but it appears that the “Huazhong ranking” through #20 was identical to the 2004 US News ranking, except for breaking ties. Probably not a coincidence.

^ That makes sense since the links are to USNEWS.

LOL.wow. aren’t you so happy that D comes before S?!

Texas got screwed over on that ranking, along with some other schools.

I don’t want to sound racist but how are Asians going to rank the top American universities

^ Better question: How are Asians going to take an American ranking of top US universities and call it their own. ???

some asian dude.

Let’s see…

1) There is no methodology given or explained anywhere on their website.
2) The ranking has not been given much attention (if any) by any source - Chinese or English.
3) The list looks like one of the older editions of USNWR rankings.
4) It’s located under the “Links” section: Home >> Links >> Overseas Universities >> Top 100 among American Universities.

Conclusion: Probably a copied-and-pasted list, for the purpose of informing their own students

Thats how the Chinese operate…copy and make for cheap/fake

-another asian dude

A copy of USNEWs ranking from 2002 is the best you’ve seen…

LOL DUKE.

superstar, I don’t think they’re trying to “fake” anything here. It’s located under the “links” subsection. (Besides, it’s not that hard to produce your own list if you want to be original. College ranking is not rocket science.) If you want to discuss about Chinese merchants faking Rolex and other name brands, that’s another topic.

Im a generalist and obviously the fake comment wasn’t pertaining to the actual college list.

I did. The so-called “Huazhong ranking” is an EXACT copy of the USNWR ranking from 1-100 (with Harvard and Princeton reversed as both were ranked #1 that year).

Huazhong never claims to rank US universities. It merely provides an information link for the top 100 US universities (according to USNWR in 2004), just as the link it provides to the “Top 100 British Universities in 2003” by Financial Times ([::Links::](http://www.hust.edu.cn/english/link/oversea/default.htm)).

Btw, Huazhong is like a third-tier university in China.

p.s. novi, you are missing all the fun again.

For some reason, I like that Taiwanese ranking :)
