Hug Your Kid

My brother called to tell me a friend of his D1 committed suicide. He was a junior of a normal state school in his state. I met the young man on a few occasions over the years. Seemed like a nice enough guy. He was a friend to the whole family. As a parent with a S and D, this stuff shakes me.

This isn’t about why or where or anything like that. There is more to this sad story and someday I might know what it is if someone tells me. For now…

Call your kid. Hug your kid. Love your kid.

So tragically sad…

This is what happened to my 20-year-old nephew in August, @m0minmd. From outward appearances, he was a very happy, well-adjusted kid. He left no note or clues, so we will never know why he snapped. Can you suggest to your brother that his D get counseling? Seriously! She may not indicate that she is struggling, but she has to be. My daughter’s counselor lost a friend when she was in her early 20s, and she said it was devastating. People need help to get through tragedies such as this.

So sad. The male mind between the ages of 18 and 25 is so fragile. I worry about my very happy, very well adjusted 19 year old because you just never know. Seems to always be a head scratcher. Sorry for your loss.

I agree @m0minmd . In this rat race we call admission, people tend give up their core belief and start believing in a hype that surround them. All these colleges need to figure out what’s expected and what is possible by 17/18 year old.

Also, at the end journey (enjoying your life , have a balance , loving, caring and living with integrity) is more important than destination (we call it a college)

We parents on CC need to take a pledge to hug our kids and love them unconditionally.

@MaineLonghorn I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am sure my brother will make sure D1 has counseling.
