Huge Decisions

I’m still waiting to hear back from one school (Stony Brook) and it’s my top choice. If I don’t get into Stony Brook, I’m going to have to make some decisions and I don’t know what to do. I got into every school I’ve applied to. Private Colleges: NYIT, Molloy, St. Johns, and Adelphi. Suny/Cuny: Queens, Hunter, Baruch, and Brooklyn. My problem is that I have no idea where I would like to go. I registered as a Psychology major and I’m looking to take a pre-med track in hopes of eventually becoming a Psychiatrist. My parents make a good amount of money so the private schools I’ve applied to aren’t offering me any financial need. I’ve recieved acedemic scholarships but it’s not enough for me. So I’m thinking of attending one of the Cuny schools. I visited the Queens College Campus over the summer and I wouldn’t mind going to school there. I haven’t visited the other Cuny’s, but I just want to go to a school that will benefit me academically. Which Cuny is perfect for Psychology and Pre-med? Help :frowning:

Got waitlisted for Stony Brook. I accepted to be on the waitlist! Even more stress! Yay

I feel you bro. Picking colleges isn’t easy.

They both have advantages. Did you get into Macauley or the Honors program at CUNY? If you did, that gives you a smaller community of very bright and motivated people to be part of. The dorms at Queens are very nice and less than 10 years old and you are about 30 minutes from the City by bus and subway and the school runs a bus to the LIRR station, at least to Jamaica, though I am not sure about the hours of operation. In any event, you can get a metrocard for the bus and subway.

Stony Brook is a “suitcase” school still, although it is attracting more OOS students so that may be changing.

By point of reference, I am a CUNY grad and my H is an alumnus of Stony Brook. We met at law school.

Do you live in NYC, would you be commuting to a CUNY?
What’s your parents ’ budget?
If you calculate : (tuition, fees, room, board) - (grants, scholarships) =
What are your results for each school?

Hi. I got into stony brook, Fordham, and manhattan college. I am a biology mayor . On pre med trzck and I live in New York. What school should I go too??

Since your parents income and assets will be used for you to attended school, you should take on the least amount of debt for undergrad. Can your parents fund these schools and med school?

All things being equal (and they probably aren’t, COA-wise), I would choose Stony Brook. It’s the least expensive (at least on paper, maybe you will get a full ride at one of the other schools) and it has a medical school.

Thanks for your opinions. I am choosing Stonybrook. Better for the sciences with more research opportunities and least expensive.
