When a school calculates GPA for say, junior year, does it use the individual semester grades of a two semester class or the final grade for that class.

The GPA is used when you recieve your final grade man. At my school we got sememsters so only the final semester grades will count. Also an A is an A no A+ or A-

All that I am aware of use end of semester grades. A two semester course would thus have two grades as part of the GPA.

that doesn't really make any sense though. Its like counting a class as two classes

mmm hmmm! go

Yeah, in my school at least, the last report card of every semester is included in your transcript. So a 2-semester class will have 2 grades.

It depends on your school. Do you want to hear something funny? Not only does my daughter have to take the new SAT to get into college with all the angst that is going with the writing section, essay, etc., but in 10th grade, her school converted from semester averages to year averages and her grades were converted as well. What I can't figure out is what they do about 1/2 year grades like health, psychology, drama, etc. - do they divide by 2 and use 2.0 for an A? Otherwise they would carry the same weight as a full year class such as calculus, physics, etc. I am not sure I have enough confidence in her school to have thought this out... We live in a very high-tech city, though, some engineering parent (like me) will complain, I'm sure. Anyway - my point is - all bets are off for applications for my daughter because of the new SAT, grades being converted in the middle of her high school career, and the list goes on... I am hoping that she interviews well! :-)

In my school, they multiply the course grade with how many credits the course gives. So a half-year course would count only half as much in the average.

At D middle school, they give number grades, but many papers have letter grades, so is the A a 94 A or a 99 A...can make a differnce
