I was accepted to Carnegie Mellon College of Science.

When applying, my father and mother stated that I didn't need to apply for financial aid. No the box was marked "No" and that was that.

WELL, now in April they decide that we DO need to appl for financial aid. The deadline of Feb 15th has passed, obviously, and I have no idea what to do.

Will they still offer financial aid?
Can we get it for second semester if the first semester deadline has passed?
Will we ever be able to get financial aid from them if we marked "No" on the initial application?

This is upsetting me greatly.. if we don't get in, I have to go to an in state school.

Can anybody offer any words of advice?

I'm going to call the fnancial aid office on Monday as soon as they open.. I hope they are forgiving/understanding.

Definitely call, but first take a look at the admitted page http://www.cmu.edu/ntia/ , click on Forms, and read the Request for Financial Aid Review. It sounds like you can ask for a second look but only if you have competing offers from other schools.

Did you complete the fafsa? What is your efc? If it is real high (likely if your parents didn't think you should bother applying) then you probably would not have gotten much...although, you should always do the fafsa anyway to see if you can get any merit aid. I would think that even if you did not do it this year you should be able to next year. But definitely call on Monday.

My father went and did the EFC estimator (one of the calculators online) and it came out to 63014.... My mother doesn't see the point in aplpying for FinAd but my father really wants us to. (I don't think we'll get anything though)

I'm going to call on Monday. I hope they're understanding.

well if your efc is 63000 and coa is 45000 (est) you would not get need based aid anyway, so don't beat yourself up about that. Did you get scholarship offers from other private schools? Then you could do the financial aid review referenced above and maybe get something there.

No, I didn't apply for FinAid at any other schools. I've decided to attend CMU though, so my father wants to try and get grants/loans/etc. I don't see the point but he is quite adamant about it.

Your EFC is 60,000+? In CMU's (well, the government really)'s eyes, that means you can pay for it easily yourself. Make your dad happy and call CMU to apply for aid, but there are kids with lower EFCs that won't be getting financial aid.

Reasonably, your family should be able to stretch to cover your CMU education...you can still get an on-campus job (there are loads of them, and very few if any require official work-study aid), which might make your dad happier. Also, you can get decent loans from outside banks and the like.
