<p>I wanted to add that if your parents told you falsely that they went to NYU then you definitely should correct that, because they'll check for legacy status. But if you wrote down a different college, and you were actually misled by your parents, the chances of it being check upon is realllly next to zero. If your GC says to let it go, then let it go. But if you wrote NYU, don't let it go b/c that'll likely come back to bite you.
I feel badly for your nerves. If you don't like or trust your GC, maybe ask a principal what to do.</p>
