Ok so I was to give my SAT II’s this saturday on October 4th for the first time. However, due to certain circumstances I completely bombed my test and I am pretty sure ill be cancelling these scores. Now the problem is that in November I have already registered to give my SAT I again (first time got a 2040) so I cant even do my Subject tests then. Is there ANY chance that the admissiosn committee will still look at my application for Early Decision if I dont give up SAT II scores or is it an absolute necessity? What if I do it on december 1st and rush them the scores?

You need to call the admissions office. I’m pretty sure that Dec. 1 is too late – by the time the tests are graded, most of the admissions decisions will have been made. But you need to call and ask – don’t take my word for it.

Did you take the ACT, or can you take that in the next month?

Brown’s admission website is clear; Brown will not consider an application with only SAT I scores and the November test date is the last test date for ED applicants. You might have a stronger application if you wait and apply RD, which allows you to use test dates through January.

Yeah I can take ACT’s next month. But would those be acceptable substitutes for SAT II’s?

You can submit ACT scores in lieu of SAT I and SAT IIs.

As per the website: “We require that all applicants either take the SAT I and two additional SAT IIs, or simply the ACT with writing.”

Fireandrain thanks a lot. I emailed the admissions department explaining my situation to them. They were very understanding and asked me to go ahead with my ED app with a letter of explanation attached to it. Do you think it will reduce my chances by any chance though?

If you apply ED with an excuse rather than the required test scores, I think the best you can hope for is to be deferred to the regular admissions pool.

Yes, it will reduce your chances. I suggest you take the ACT…it can be used instead of the SAT and SAT IIs…that way you’ll be on fair playing ground with the rest of the ED applicants who actually do have all of their **** together. You don’t want to have to have a “handicap” so to speak when you don’t need to…

There may be some exceptional circumstances where a student is accepted ED without all the test scores. I’ve known one in all my years interviewing. I don’t know why you bombed the test, but unless it’s something like a death in the family, I doubt Brown would excuse you.

Take the ACT.

Well in my case I was to give Math I but my calc stopped working mid-way so I cancelled the scores for that reason. I will still be getting my bio scores which I shall send. The admissiosn department said that because of the math case it’s okay to apply with one SAT II. I checked the next date for the ACT - it’s in december so it’s the same case as giving SAT II’s again in december. Do you think I should do something like UChicago EA (which doesnt require SAT II’s) and push brown to regular? What has a higher acceptance rate? Uchicago or Brown?

Don’t try and game admissions. Apply where you want to be.

If you want to be at Brown more than anywhere else and they’re willing to consider you despite your circumstance then you should continue as planned.

If that’s not the case, you shouldn’t have been applying ED anyway.

Maybe you could test standby for the ACT, b/c I know the SAT has standby, and the nearest ACT test date is October 25.

It costs $40 extra on top on the regular fee but it should be worth it.
