Huge Question

Hi, I was wondering if you’re parents are and one lives in another state would you be qualified for in-state tuition? For example, my mom and dad are divorced, I have lived with my mom all my life we live in Kentucky. My dad has lived in Florida the past 4 years and so I was wondering if I were to apply to a Florida college would I qualify for in-state tuition.

Surprisingly [to me, at least], it looks as though the answer might be yes: “The legal residence of a dependent child whose parents are divorced, separated, or otherwise living apart will be considered Florida if either parent is a legal resident of this State – regardless of who claims the dependent individual for federal income tax purposes.” See page 6 of this document, and you & parents should read the whole thing carefully. https://www.flvc.org/documents/96858/97588/Guidelines+on+Florida+Residency+for+Tuition+Purposes.pdf/1375dcd4-a273-4319-a833-d54a51f48bbc

Awesome, thank you so much. You may not know this, but would that parent have to be included on my FAFSA or should I just talk to the school?

Oh my, it’s been some years since I had to fill out FAFSA, so I’ll pass on that one. Talk to the school you’re interested in. They would have the best and most current information. I’m gonna guess that the answer is yes, but that’s just a gut response based on the fact that FAFSA always seemed to want to know everything.
