Huma 1600

My daughter is trying to decide between the HUMA 1600 program and the First Year Seminar/Writing Workshop. And, if she chooses the HUMA 1600 program, what are the advantages and disadvantages of living in the HUMA dorm? Any advice for her?

I was told that strong writers should consider the HUMA 1600 course. I attended a sample class at Trinity 360 and it was AMAZING. Dr. Thomas Jenkins talked about the development of war music--he brought in the movie Troy, a man who had studied bardic traditions in Yugoslavia and discovered "there is no Homer," and referred us back to Hector and the foreshadowing when Hector's wife is talking to Hector about going to war--her lamentations later on, after Hector's brutal treatment, are actually very similiar to what she was saying when Hector was debating whether or not to go to war. There is a lot of analysis and a paper every week. I don't know anything about the First Year Writing Seminar.

I am also registered to live in the HUMA 1600 community, which I'm really excited about.
