Human Bio Major

Hello guys! So I've recently been accepted into SD as a human bio major and while I still have trouble deciding between Irvine (biological science major) and SD, I just wanted some info on the Human Bio major at SD. Is it hard? Of course all of bio is hard, but I just wanted to know about Human bio in particular. I'm currently in AP bio at my school and I got a b last semester and it seems like I'm getting a b this semester...my teacher is really bad... but I'll for sure switch that up in college, but I was wondering, are there any specific books that I should start reading in preparation for bio itself? I was thinking of studying in the summer, but I won't have my bio book, so is there anything else that can take it's place? Thanks in advance!

Can somebody help a brotha out! Please!

SD is better in sciences

Oh great! Thanks!

@thaichee

I don’t think you need to read over the summer. That’s certainly ambitious of you, but really not necessary. I think you’ll do fine once you get here.

You think so? It’s just that I feel so unaccomplished in the ap bio class I’m currently taking and so I’m worried about how well I’ll do in college…but thanks!

you’ll do just fine with the amount of ambition you already have. dont worry :)

A B in AP Bio is not bad at all, you know. What did you get on the AP test? You might be able to skip some general bio classes in UCSD.

I wouldn’t be worried about bio yet, actually. I cannot speak for Irvine, but at UCSD, you’ll spend the first 2 years doing Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, so if anything, be mentally fortified for those first. They are a great deal harder than what you have seen in high-school, at least they were for me. Have a fun before-college summer, though, don’t kill yourself studying ahead.

You said “in preparation for bio itself”, which is a little bit vague to me. Were you referring to a general bio class? There are many classes in the major, most of which you probably won’t do until your third year, except maybe genetics.

I understand if you want to study ahead though, I do so myself. In which case, do wait until you’ve enrolled for your classes in the Fall, then get the textbooks for THOSE classes, maybe email your professors for a copy of the syllabus if they are not online so you’ll know what pages to read, and read ahead for the classes you’ll take in the Fall. I think this is the best thing to do as far as preparation. Know what classes you are taking first before doing any studying ahead. =)

@ Heartarrow, thanks!

@ continuity, I haven’t taken the AP bio test yet aha, in about a month I will though… Ah I see I see, so I don’t really start getting into my major until the third year, very interesting.

This helped a great deal! Thanks!

But now I’m just wondering how hard bio is! A few of my friends say that it’s horrible, which kinda worries me

Oh! I forgot to mention that I’m in Revelle college -_- so I’m worried that my GPA’s gonna go down too lol

I got accepted in Revelle college as a Human Biology major as well!

Oh Congrats!!
