How do you like the school? for those in the other schools within cornell, how are your friends doing in it?

Im an HBHS sophomore in Humec. So far its been pretty decent. I havent really taken any classes in humec because im pre med and most of my classes are in arts and sciences. One thing I really like is how helpful the counselors are in humec, unlike in the bigger colleges. I have friends in arts and sciences who had hard times meeting with their counselors about classes or grades. Your major will determine how many classes you actually take in the school.

im thinking abotu hbhs
can you tell me more about it:)
thankss so muchh

HBHS is pretty much like any other biology major, except it focuses more on human development and nutrition. As a freshman you take the intro chem and bio classes and then NS1150 and HD1150, your typical intro classes. Like I said earlier the counselors in Human Ecology are more helpful, in my opinion, with choosing courses that fit your interests and keeping you on track. The good thing about HBHS is that you dont have to be pre med to be in this major. It caters to all types of biological perspectives. I have another friend who is an HBHS major who is looking into nutrition or dietetics.

thankss for all the info! do you know how the math courses/humanties coruses are in HBHS?

also would a 5 or 4 on the ap biology let you skip intro bio courses?

Humec requires u take 3 credits for humanities…basically philosophy or ethics. Im trying to see if my IB english credit will suffice. For math they require calculus and statistics. IF u are pre med they dont suggest you use credit for core classes such as math or bio. I believe a 5 would allow u to skip two semesters of intro bio and a 4 would allow u to skip one. Heres a link that will tell you more about ap credit

This is the curriculum sheet for HBHS

thanks so muchh! jw are you japanese? sarita sounds japanese lol
generally speaking, are the human eco professors nice and informative?

no im not japanese lol thats just a nickname. I havent dealt with any mean professors yet in human ecology. Most of my classes have been from different colleges so there have been a wide range of differences. Almost all the professors are very informative and make it easy to speak with them. The counselors are particularly helpful as well.

ohh haha
so hows your premed studies going overall? is cornell helping you alot for the mcat and stuff?

so far its going pretty well…Cornell has a lot of programs that prep for med school and the mcat. I probably will look more into by spring of this year. Im still taking some intro courses that I didnt get a chance to do freshman year. If you have the ability and work ethic to take many classes I would definitely do so. Unfortunately, Im the type of person who would rather take 15 credits of hard classes than 19 credits of a mixture.

ooo thats cool
by doing 15 hard courses, is it harder to maintain a high gpa?

oh not 15 classes, 15 credits. whew no lol. Well ive met a lot of people who need to take many classes in order to focus and sometimes that includes classes that are easy and not particular to their major. However, when i have too many i cant focus. Its basically preference…I mean my gpa was higher when i used this method.

any more advice you could possibly give me (you already gave me a whole lot)?

Cornell is hard no doubt. Just dont let the stress get to you. Try to find something other than school work to keep you sane.

alrightyy thanks a bunch!
any1 else have any input?

Hey, I was wondering when you decided to take the math requirements for med school. I know that HBHS majors tend to have a pretty loaded freshman year, so did you defer your math reqs to another year, or did you use AP credit? Thanks.

also when you apply to the school of human ecology, do you say you want to do HBHS or do you wait? are the sat scores really high for HBHS

if you didn’t specify HBHS, then what you would you specify…

idunno, sorry im slow with the whole admission process :(
