Does anyone have any experience with or insights into this major? There doesn't seem to be much information about it on the website.

Sorry - I meant to respond to you a while ago, but got distracted. I hope you are still out there

Human Factors/Psychology is a recent extension of an older field called Human Factors/Ergonomics. It deals with the design of the human/machine interface and making products easier to use. Probably the best current example of good human factors design is Apple products. The human interface is very intuitive and therefore easy to use. Tufts made a name for itself (a long time ago) in Human Factors/Ergonomics by designing the Reach toothbrush. Tufts was one of the first universities to make the extension to Human Factors/Psychology and the program is highly regarded.

There is also a local student chapter of the professional society:

I highly recommend that design engineers and software designers wanting to do product design and software in the consumer sector take some courses or get a minor in this area.

Wow! Thank you so much, Mastadon! This is just the information my son needs to help him choose his major. This sounds like it’s right up his alley – what an interesting program!
