Human Geography using only PR

Has anyone taken the Human Geography test having only studied the Princeton Review book? I'm planning to take the test in May, and have almost completed the PR book, but I'm curious as to whether I need to invest in another review book/text book to get a 5.

What scores did you get and what areas did you feel were not covered sufficiently?

Thanks for any help.

Oh, also, random question: looking through the AP Stats from collegeboard, I saw that over 24,000 of the 39,000 kids who took the Human Geography exam were in 9th grade when they took it? Is this offered as a Freshman History class somewhere, or what? Why do so many freshmen take it?

That’s what I’m going to do. Hopefully I’ll get a 5. Actually, I do have other textbooks but the textbooks are out of print I think.

It seems like PR is the best book for HG. Barron’s is apparently too hard but if you want more information, maybe Barron’s will be a good guide for you.

Human Geography is not a history class. It’s a social science class, and there are many schools that offer the AP course to freshmen. Moreover, these freshmen used Human Geography probably use the class to fulfill the HS requirement for world geography. However, there are some high schools, like the schools in my school district, that doesn’t offer the class to freshmen but only to juniors or seniors.

AP Human Geography is a good stepping-stone to other AP classes because its exam is not as rigorous, either content-wise or essay-wise, as the other AP social sciences. Also, knowledge from AP Human pays off in AP World History and AP Comparative Government.

I used Barron’s to study for the AP Human exam in conjunction with taking an actual class. I got a 4, probably because I skipped an entire essay. The essay used the term “Burgess model” to refer to the concentric zone model. Neither my textbook nor Barron’s used this definition, flustering everybody taking the exam at my school. This goes to show that no resource is thoroughly comprehensive. However, I think you’ll be fine with PR on this. If you’re not confident, go to Barnes and Noble, pick out a Barron’s, and skim through it to see if there’s anything it covered that PR didn’t. Good luck!

I think studying only with PR is more than enough- ESPECIALLY if you’re taking the class. I procrastinated last year, self-studied the exam, and didn’t even read a single page of a prep-book, textbook, nothing and still got a 4. It’s a terribly easy exam, at least if you are not completely ignorant.

If you’re in debate club, Human Geography should be easier as well. A lot of questions involve political knowledge. For example, “which of the following countries produces the most oil”.

Good luck!

Btw, I don’t think I even started the third essay and still got a 4!! I think I’ll retake it next year just to get the 5, but my point is, if you’ve read PR you’re set to go.
