I want to become a Human Resource Manager. I was wondering if it was better to major in HR management or in business admin.?

Many colleges offer Business administration as an undergraduate major but not HR management as one. So that's why I was wondering if that would kinda be equivalent to each other.

Also what exactly is Managerial Science with a concentration of HR Management?

If the business department has some relevant HR courses, then you would be fine to major in either one. Partner with your academic advisor to ensure you are choosing a course schedule that both fulfills your major requirements and puts you on the right path toward your career goals. Departments with an HR major tend to have more course offerings with more flexibility to work with your schedule than a business department with no HR major or minor. I assume Managerial Science is similar to a BS in business admin. (may require some additional science and/or math courses), but you would need to look at the course requirements to determine the key difference.

HR is a very specialized subfield of business management. It can be difficult to break into, which is why your internships will be critical to begin building a solid resume and credibility. Gain as much experience as you can during your undergrad years.

I also want a HR career. I’m currently getting a bachelors of business administration with a management major and a minor in HR. You could see if something similar is available at your college? Or you could major in human resource and minor in something else that would be helpful.

I have read that it is difficult to break into HR which is what worries me the most. I’m planning on eventually getting a graduate degree focused around HR.

A concentration in HRM would be focused around human resource management. Business administration involves a lot of business topics and basic business strategies. However, it is possible to get a degree in business administration and still focus a concentration around or in HR.

Take as many management and HR classes as you can. Because you can’t specifically major in HR, you should definitely get an internship in HR.

HR is a very specialized area of business dealing with a lot of information on: diversity, management, selection, recruiting, employment law, labor law, etc.
