I’m applying Early decision to Amherst this fall && I was just wondering, since I go to a new school in which my senior class will be the first graduating class will that be sort of a hook. Also, My schools name is The school for Human Rights, since Amherst centers mostly around humanities, would that also be a hook.

Lastly, Is it true that Amherst actively recruits URMs ?

Will greatly appreciate feedback=]

The fact that you are a senior in the first graduating class and the school you attend will not make much of a difference, I wouldn't call either a "hook". Now, your individual accomplishments and interests that have led you to attend "The School for Human Rights" might make you a more interesting applicant. And yes, Amherst does recruit URM's.

who exactely do they categorize as URM's?

&& though I attend the school for Human Rights, my passion is in economics && finance. I did do some leadership and human rights based extra-curriculars though. How do you think Amherst is going to look at that?

URMs would generally be anything that isn't Anglo-Saxon or East European. Although Asians may be excluded from that category, as there are multiple standards for evaluating them.

I don't think Amherst particularly cares how focused you are on one area; generally speaking, the point of a liberal arts college is to promote learning for the sake of learning.
