Humanities Departments

I know that Stanford is more well known and respected in the science and engineering fields. How are the humanities departments at Stanford (especially English, history, and political science)? Are they as challenging academically to the sciences? Are there good professors and resources devoted to the humanities or does Stanford focus on the sciences?

"Ranking"-wise, I don't know how Stanford is in comparison to the rest of the world. In general, though, I do not get the impression that Stanford places more emphasis on the sciences than on the humanities. I feel like most of the current Stanford students on CC are techie majors like myself, but I hope there is someone here who can more accurately answer your question.

Stanford is one of those schools that is good in just about every damn thing. Its humanities departments are as strong as its science departments. Humanities tend to be less challenging, but I surmise they're not easy at Stanford. Professors and resources are devoted to humanities, too.

I know that the history department here is excellent. The faculty is absolutely phenomenal.
