I need some advice. I'm currently a junior (nearly a senior =) and I am trying to formulate a concrete list come September.

STATS:
rank- 4/~265
GPA: 4.3 W so like 3.8/3.9 UW [my school uses two different scales for GPA/class rank, etc.)

SAT: 2090 (750 cr/620m/720 w) - I think it's pretty obvious how much I like literature and hate math.
SAT II's: 610 bio, ~740 USH, ~720 literature [will know in June] again, hate math/science immensely, lol.

EC's
class president (10)
honor societies, yada yada
editor of lit magazine
executive board
massSTAR leadership candidate
Girls State representative (MA)
outstanding contribution to the class of 2007 (10/11)
frederick douglass/ susan b anthony humanities award
HANDS (diversity organization) presented diversity project to school system
youth group
violist for 8 years
orchestra
afterschool tutor/teacher 20+ hours a week at afterschool program, specifically with extremely learning disabled
school council (10)

I like NYU quite a bit. GW was okay, too.

I'm looking for a fabulous English program. I want something Urban or fairly close to the city... my stats aren't mindblowingly amazing, but I think they're decent. I hope they're decent enough to get me into some good schools?

Brown - your sat is far too low. Your gpa is merely average. ecs above average. It would take a whole lot of luck, but I would still apply just in case a fluke happens.

Mmkay her GPA is not merely average. She is 4/265 and these are Massachusetts schools, which place well.

Brown cares the least of the Ivies about SAT scores. You should definitely take the ACTs and then the SATs again. If you get 700 in Math, which you can definitely do, try ED for Brown because you'd be happy. Just make sure your essay is very genuine and is narrative, not intellectual.

You would adore U Chicago as well. They legit look last at SATs and first at Essays. I think you'd get in EA.

Everyone came up with some good colleges for you (Barnard, Sarah Lawrence etc.)

I am going to add Rice to the mix. They have a superb English department, the weather's warm and sunny, Houston is a nice cosmopolitan city, and Rice kids are flipping crazy in an awesome way. It was rated by Princeton 361 colleges as the second happiest college in the states, after Stanford.

my GPA is not average by any means. My school is just weird. They have two scales going at once. So I can only get a 4.0 for language and electives, and a up to a 5.0 for honors classes.

Don't be rude or assume. My transcript consists of nothing less than a 95. :)

EDIT: and just because your post kind of irked me and I am admittedly, a bit defensive, I'll elaborate

like most people here, I've taken a language since junior high

This is considered a "college level course" at my HS until senior year (french V), therefore the highest addition to my GPA could be a 4.0 (straight "A" = 3.8).

Whereas an "Honors" or "AP" level class goes up to a 5.0. It's just how my school weights. That GPA is also with silly classes like P.E. and Writing Seminar (ughhh) in the mix.

Looking SOLELY at my "Core classes", my GPA is actually closer to a 4.7 Weighted :)

Ok I'm done being defensive.

But thanks to all for your suggestions, I assure you I will heed your advice wisely :)
