I just found out today off of the Caltech site that they require a recommendation from both a humanities and a science teacher. Unfortunately, I only have recs from 2 science teachers and I don't know any of my humanities teacher that well. Should I go ahead and just send my two science recs? Or is it absolutely necessary (ie I will get rejected because of my lack of a humanities rec) that I find a humanities teacher to write a rec, even if the rec will probably be very bland.

They require two recs from different subjects, so it certainly won't help you.

(I always thought it was a rule of thumb to not send two recs from the same subject. Like science and math is okay, but science and science is not.)

"Like science and math is okay, but science and science is not"

Well, I don't exactly have two science recs. One rec is from a physics teacher and another is from an engineering teacher (yeah, we have engineering core classes at our school).
