I'm researching some schools in the north east that have strong humanities programs, like history, politics, international relations, and even other type of subjects like philosophy, etc. Also, I am looking at particularly non-Ivy schools that is still very high end, yet easier to get into.

Also, I'd prefer that these schools are private schools and offer financial aid (good financial aid, for low income family). Schools in NewYork, Massachussets, or Connecticut would be ideal, though anywhere in north east is good too.

what are your stats? do you care about size of school? or urban/suburban/rural? or type of atmosphere of school (e.g. big jock presence, active greek life, liberal vs conservative, etc etc)

Personally I do prefer more urban lifestyle, maybe suburban works too.

I would like most of all academic competitiveness, scholarship, etc. I wouldn't like it if the college was overly liberal, or overly conservative. I would call myself more of a moderate, so anything too extreme on either side, where it might become uncomfortable I probably won't like.

Not sure if that helps. Maybe there is some sort of online test with these types of questions so I can find better matches?

As for stats, I am hispanic, around 20/220, upward trend (straight A's and 1 B in sophomore year, expecting straight A's junior and senior year). I'm just looking for some colleges, and work from there. This is the first time I've started to think of colleges other then the ivies, so I am not familiar with where or how I should start looking.

Hm, the first schools that come to mind are Bates and Vassar. But those are real rural and liberal. There are a lot of universities in the mid-atlantic/northeast that would be a close fit to your bill, that is, strong humanties/IR/politics and near/in urban areas. Have you considered Tufts, JHU, Georgetown?

Yeah, good point groovinhard. Good suggestions, though I'd rather stick to New England particularly, the farthest being New York or upper New Jersey (such as Princeton).

TheMK99, that's good to hear about Fordham then. Thanks :)
