^^^ ah yes thanks for catching that, it's general arts and not necessarily music. i'd still recommend history of western art music though, great course :-)

S loved Greek Thought & Lit., took all three quarters. Also took 3 quarters of East Asian Civ., which got better as the year progressed.

I'll be taking sosc next year. Does anyone know how "Self, Culture, and Society" and "Classics of Social and Political Thought," the two courses into which I am looking, compare?

Thanks.

Self, Culture and Society is the greatest course in the world. It is very well constructed (probably because it's been run by essentially the same people for 30 years or so, and they are quite serious about making sure each part of the course fits with the overall goals). It does a very good job of examining they way social factors shape life.

Self tends to be more global than Classics, if that makes sense. They are both great courses, and I know people who have loved both. I'm in Self and enjoyed it, but I probably would have liked Classics, too. Think about the types of readings you'd be doing in each. Classics would involve more reading of, obviously, classical texts, which tend to be a bit more tedious or painful to read.

does anyone know about Intro to the Humanities? all ive heard is that it's writing intensive

Was that even offered this year? I've never heard anyone mention taking it...
