What's unique/special about HUMBIO?

Every premed and his/her dog is in it.

In my opinion, it’s the best major for anyone interested in combining science with social science with human interaction or health themes.

It’s a very interdisciplinary major that spans Biology, Public Policy, Chemistry, International Relations, Economics, Earth Sciences, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, and many more areas.

The Program in Human Biology (B.A. in Human Biology) is essentially a design-your-own-major with a few restrictions. There are some guidelines for what classes can and can’t count for your major, and every HumBio major must take the Human Biology Core (2 classes in Fall, 2 in Winter, and 2 in Spring [usually taken in series in sophomore year])

Within the Human Biology major, every student picks their own course schedule that focuses on an individually-designed concentration. Concentrations can really range to the most hardcore science to really social science-based.

For example, you can create a brain development and neuroscience concentration, a cell biology concentration, pediatric nutrition concentration, women’s health concentration, and many more.

It’s the perfect major for someone who has an idea of what interests them and thinks their interests lie between science and social science. It’s also the perfect major for someone who doesn’t know their interests yet.

It is the most popular major on campus, partly because it is the most common for pre-medical students, but also because it caters to so many different interests.

[Also, the actual bio major is really hardcore and competitive (not in a good way). the bio major is designed to prepare you for a lifetime of research, so many bio majors are students that eventually go on to get PhD’s or go straight into research, although some premed students are bio majors]
